George Hatfield to Speak About Chinese Cymbidium Hybrids May 15, 2008 Hatfield Orchids is owned and operated by George Hatfield, who has over 15 years of experience in raising award quality Cymbidium orchids. Hatfield Orchids is fortunate enough to be located in Ventura County, California, which has an ideal climate for the propagation of Cymbidium orchids. We are an operation of family & friends and orchids are our passion. George is active in both the Cymbidium Society of America and the American Orchid Society, as well as several Southern California regional orchid organizations. George is an orchid judge for both the CSA and AOS, and is currently the Chairman of the Santa Barbara judging region for the CSA. George is also a past-president of the CSA and was the Chairman of the CSA Cymbidium Congress from 1998-2001 and president of the Santa Barbara International Orchid Show in 2002 & 2003.
George Hatfield has published articles in the American Orchid Society Awards Quarterly and the Cymbidium Society of America CSA Journal. George is an orchid judge for both the CSA and AOS, and is currently the Chairman of the Santa Barbara judging region for the CSA. George is the owner of Hatfield Orchids. George has had the Grand Champion or Reserve Grand Champion Cymbidium at the Santa Barbara International Orchid show for the past 4 years. George is an invited judge of the Tokyo Dome Orchid show for the past 7 years. He will be talking about Chinese Cymbidium hybrids. Native Orchid Conference July 18 - 21, 2008 The seventh annual Native Orchid Conference will be held at the height of summertime in the mountains of Appalachia. West Virginia University in Morgantown will be the "home-base" providing comfortable meeting facilities, lodging and food service. Meetings will be held on the Evansdale campus in the Gold Room of Braxton Tower. The forests and pastures of central Pennsylvania and eastern West Virginia will provide you an opportunity to see as many as 20 species of blooming native orchids.
During the four-day duration of the conference, two days set aside for presentations will alternate with two field trip days. Speakers will include both professionals and dedicated amateurs and presentations are scheduled for Friday the 18th and Sunday the 20th. Field trip sorties will follow each presentation day and will take place on Saturday the 19th - into the woodlands of south central Pennsylvania, and Monday the 21st - into the wilds of east central West Virginia. The MOS brings together people interested in orchids to promote and encourage orchid culture, preservation, education propagation, hybridization, and all other orchid-related activities of interest to its members.
